Take an inside look into Novartis Access, a program that provides medicines to developing countries, like Kenya, for approximately one US dollar for one month’s treatment. The program currently provides medicines for noncommunicable diseases (NCD) such as cardiovascular diseases, diabetes and cancer, which cause 28 million deaths in low- and middle-income countries each year.

The program is expected to reach 20 million people by 2020

In Kenya, the average revenue per person is 100 dollars per month with almost half the population below the poverty line, which is why Novartis Access is seeking to establish the program long-term. The program is expected to reach 20 million people by 2020.

According to the Novartis Access global lead, Harald Nusser, “the concept [of the program] is unprecedented. This is a really broad portfolio approach targeting almost the universe of non-communicable diseases, which are life-threatening.” Watch how Novartis Access is working to change the lives of people in Kenya one medicine at a time.
