Union Minister for Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda jokes: “I hope all of us here are in good mental health. But should any of us sense deterioration we can nominate beforehand.”

He adds that all changes in the Mental Healthcare Bill suggested by the RS and Standing Committee were accepted. “The Bill empowers the individual with legal rights to demand treatment for mental illness from the State. It also decriminalises suicide and recognises caretakers. It curtails and punishes inhuman treatment or imprisonment of PMI.”

He adds that he is glad that all MPs had only suggested steps to further initiatives and nothing against any clause of the Bill. “All noted,” he says.

Thank you for being with us for this Bill,” he says.
