As per the Bloomberg Global Health Index, Italy has trumped 162 countries to emerge the healthiest in the world.
Italy has defeated 162 countries to emerge as the healthiest on the planet.
The report that assessed countries on the basis of entities like life expectancy, causes of death, health risks, malnutrition, availability of clean water among others has Iceland, Switzerland, Singapore and Australia bag the second, third, fourth and fifth spots respectively.
So, what exactly does the index indicate? Well, the data means Italians have the least percentage of obese people and are better-placed in terms of mental health, life expectancy among other variables.
However, all’s not hail and hearty for Italy as it continues to grapple under the pressures of a slow economy. “Yet, Italians are in way better shape than Americans, Canadians and Brits, who all suffer from higher blood pressure and cholesterol and poorer mental health,” Bloomberg reports.
Italy’s victory in this list can be attributed to its dietary practices, medical facilities and overall access to fresh produce.
And just in case you were wondering, India doesn’t feature in the top 50 spots of the healthiest country index.
